Is The War Raging Over Culture Over?
Last night watching the news (local San Fransisco) I was taken aback at two reports that received significant coverage of two separate and unrelated topics. The first a church's reinstatement of a defrocked clergy for performing same-sex "unions" and the second a meeting to discuss the increase of park usage fees. In the first, set up as a press conference, there were two (2) people in the audience and six people on the church platform. In the second there were 10 people in attendance.
I began to wonder, thinking back to the "culture war" speech given by Pat Buchanan at the Republican National Convention in 1992 which seemed to mark the start of the "war," just how many people are in the "Army?"
It would appear on both sides of the "issues" there are those who are enlisted and some who've been drafted and most are uncaring civilians! Where should people of faith be? I just picked up Shane Claiborne's newest book Jesus For President... As expected it is provocative and unusual. We simply don't "THINK" about these things. Generally, we don't.
So, in this Watercooler Wednesday discussion. What are we thinking? Is the war real? Does the war matter? What fronts are worth fighting for?
Hmmmmm? Please leave a comment about your thoughts and then...

thanks Dan for this....
I've heard about Jesus for President... you'd recommend it, huh?
Keep us posted oh great one!

Ah! Someone else who picked up Jesus for President. I would love to hear your thoughts as you read through it. I am having a difficult time getting through it, partly out of writing style, and partly out of content. Please post periodically as you read through it. I'd love to have someone else to dialog about this. I haven't read his other title, Irresistible Revolution, perhaps I should have started there.
Anyhow, I believe people of faith have taken a back seat in the culture wars preferring that the so-called "mouthpieces" of faith would speak for them (i.e Pat Buchanans and the like). Dangerous at the very least.
